Yaron Ofir Engineers is a leading engineering firm specializing in risk assessment, diagnosis, planning and upgrading for earthquakes and dynamic loads. The firm began operating under the name Kadmor Ofir Engineers Ltd., and was established in October 2003 by engineer Yaron Ofir and the owners of Kadmor Ofir Engineers Ltd., with a vision to serve as a knowledge base in the field of earthquake engineering, which was in its infancy in the State of Israel. From 2008, under the control of Yaron Ofir and Alex Slaughter under the name Yaron Ofir Engineers Ltd. The firm promoted the field of earthquakes, while developing advanced engineering in Israel. The office based in Haifa expanded and opened a branch in Tel Aviv as well as in Kiryat Gat, in order to improve service to customers in the center and south.

Yaron Ofir Engineers specializes in the design of buildings, industrial facilities, infrastructures and bridges to withstand the effects of an earthquake in areas with high seismicity and near active fault lines. The main activity is centered on upgrading existing buildings for earthquakes, utilizing a wide variety of upgrade measures and adapting them to the specific conditions existing in each project, and meeting the requirements of the most advanced standards in the world on this subject.

Over the years, the company's engineers have gained a lot of knowledge in a variety of topics in the seismic field. As a result, the company's engineers have developed an expertise that enables advanced non-linear dynamic analyses, which, until recently, were only performed by specialist offices abroad. The seismic experience gained over the years allows the office to specialize in the economic-engineering optimization of the planning, and to offer solutions that guarantee considerable savings in execution costs and a significant shortening of the schedules.

The company chooses to stick to the forefront of knowledge in the field, and as a result has chosen to implement current and innovative design approaches and principles, based on the advanced research done in the field around the world, using the most leading international seismic standards. Among other things, the firm chose to adopt the philosophy of performance-based design, the capacity design approach, the displacement-based design method, aspects of the influence of soil-structure interaction. And more, all of this while consulting and maintaining contact with the developers of the methods abroad. Adopting these approaches allows us planning flexibility, and as a result, the ability to offer smart and economically efficient solutions that minimize construction costs while increasing the overall safety of the structure, by reducing conservatism, which is made possible thanks to the analysis and understanding of the realistic failure scenarios expected in an earthquake. Under the leadership of the office, the aforementioned advanced design approaches have been adopted in recent years by a variety of entities. The company was among the leaders in an advanced reform in planning upgrades for earthquakes to existing buildings containing hazardous materials, which was reflected in the technical-engineering guidelines document of the Ministry of Environmental Protection on the subject, and in accordance with these approaches, effective upgrades were planned and carried out in the leading factories in Israel. Following this, the approaches have been adopted by the leading chemical and defense industry enterprises in Israel. Recently, the approaches have also been adopted by public institutions, as well as by the Ministry of Health for the purpose of upgrading hospitals in Israel, the Ministry of Education for the purpose of upgrading educational buildings, and the Ministry of Housing for the purpose of teaching Neighborhood rehabilitation and urban renewal project.

The success of the projects, and in particular the dozens of schools and industrial facilities that have already been upgraded with the above-mentioned approaches, has led to a growing recognition of the usefulness of the above-mentioned methods for the practical implementation of upgrades in existing buildings, and we are invited on a regular basis to guide and lecture on these approaches, as part of courses in the Union of Engineers, in design control courses of The director of planning, in the Home Front Command, the Union of Manufacturers, and in various commercial and private entities.

In addition, Yaron Ofir Engineers specializes in writing engineering documents, including formulating design criteria and guidelines for seismic design for initial planning stages in new facilities and buildings, as well as conducting studies in the seismic field in close cooperation with leading researchers in the field.

The Yaron Ofir company was the first in the State of Israel to actually introduce and use advanced seismic upgrading measures (including viscous energy waste devices and strengthening elements using FRP sheets) in the upgrading projects it planned.
